Roberto Testa, much
more than just a breeder, much more than just a rider looking for a
champion. Much more because this young business man in only 3 years'
time has completely changed his life for a real passion, the passion
for reining horses. In 1999 Roberto buys the Horse Valley Ranch, a
22 hectar facility situated South of Turin, next to the Castle of
Pralormo. This is where he would like his dream to come true; a
functional riding facility completely surrounded by trees with every
minor detail looked after, for the training of reining, cutting and
working cow horses. Today, the Horse Valley Ranch has completely
changed its' look.
The 34 stalls have been renovated, as well as all the surrounding
area. A 14 mt in diameter round pen has been built and a 66 x 34mt
indoor arena. In place we have a clubhouse, offices and two
studio appartments - and the outdoor track, cattle pens 30mt.
Amongst the projects to be carried out in the year 2001, there is
also that of listing the Horse Valley Farm in the Area Directory
thanks to Countess Beraudi and the Mayor of Pralormo, Mr. Mario
Moschietto. "After leading a hectic life dedicated to my business,
this place was just paradise for me," says Roberto. "The trees, the
small lakes, everything was just perfect for my horses." Born in
Novara 43 years ago, Roberto has personally contributed in rebuilding
the facility - leaving behind his jacket, tie and fast cars, today you
may well see him in his work clothes driving tractors! Roberto's love
for horses dates back to his young age. Four years ago, by chance, he
encounters his first reining horses. He starts showing in the regional
shows, buys a couple of prospects and then meets his friend and
counsellor, Claudio Risso.
..........
With Risso, in the U.S., he buys a two
year old stallion, Megapowered (Marthas Mega Jac x Cody Powered),
who enters the NRHA Futurity, misses the Finals by just half a point
but then goes on to obtaining the highest score ever in ANCR events
in Italy with Stefano Massignan in the saddle: 77.5 and 78.
A few days before the 2000 Italian Maturity, Roberto buys Risso's
part of Megapowered. "I was well aware of the fact that I was
letting a great horse go," says Claudio, "and I was sure he would
place well at the Maturity. Roberto has put so much energy and time
into this discipline that this success is well deserved."
"I believe in this horse so much"
carries on Risso, "that I made a deal with Roberto; every year three
of my brood mares will be bred to him."
For the time being Megapowered will be in the hands of Risso's
trainer, Stefano Massignan.
During the period that the ranch was under construction, Roberto's
horses moved to Hungary, where Testa owns his business, under the
guidance of Vernon Sapergia.
"I owe Vern a whole lot", Roberto tells
us, "he has given me great advice that has helped me understand
horses better and he is a trainer that tends to ecceed in calm
rather than in hurry. He is an incredible person with an incredible
baggage of experience - a real horseman. He understands horses and
always finds the right key." As of July '99, Roberto's horses are
"back home" at the Horse Valley Ranch. They have joined the horses
that were already in Italy, all carefully bred horses with pedigrees
that promise a great future both in the breeding program and in the
show pen..
